Pete and Jeff

The chattering class in New Mexico is rolling out a tired old song about how well Pete Domenici and Jeff Bingaman work together for New Mexico.

It's true that on minor pork barrel issues, it's typical for a state's two senators to cooperate.

But let's get real.  On all the major issues, our two senators have nothing in common.

Pete supports an endless war in Iraq, Jeff votes to set benchmarks and timetables to begin to leave Iraq.

Pete wants to privatize Social Security and voted in 2001 for tax cuts that have added $2.5 trillion to the national debt in 5 years.  Jeff is opposed to the privatization scheme and voted against the Paris Hilton tax cuts.

Medicare drug pricing:  Jeff yes, Pete no.

Improving Homeland Security:  Jeff yes, Pete no.

Memo to New Mexico media:  This dog won't hunt.
